Social media is used daily by people to stay informed and generate buzz that can inspire a movement. You have the power to influence change through your social media posts by sharing what you are doing to combat plastic pollution.
What to do:
- Share three social media posts on either Instagram or Facebook telling people what you’re doing to solve plastic pollution in your local area. Your posts can also be informational or educational, sharing what you’ve learned about the issue through Wayfinder.
- Posts can be photos or videos.
- Use #wayfindersociety and #algalita on your posts.
What to watch out for:
- Attention spans are short, and you have a lot of competition in the digital space.
- Not everyone will connect with your message. If you don’t get a lot of “likes,” that’s ok! Even if you reach just one person, you’re inspiring some pretty big change.
Tips:
- Be yourself! Don’t think that you need to follow social media trends to get your voice heard. Authenticity attracts people!
- Have a well thought out, concise message. Don’t put more information than needed.
- People like to feel good about learning new things, so positivity can go a long way.
- Let your creativity shine! Unique posts will stick out and will make your message more memorable.
- Using hashtags can connect you to a larger audience to view your post. Hashtags such as #plastic or #plasticpollution are great, but also use relatable hashtags to draw in people from other social media communities.
